Is he that guy from the Reichstag?

So saturday, Matt, Erin, myself and a few others went to DC to crash a rally held by those loonies that think that 9/11 was caused by the US Gov't in order to steal our freedom. Yeah.

So I covered my hat in tinfoil and drove off to matt's place where he'd constructed two large signs. Mine said "The CIA killed Dumbledore!" and had a picture of a wizard, while his said "Dick Cheney is a Giant Communist Robot!" and had a picture of some sort of crazy queen of france arm'd robot.

Certainly, we thought, we'll be yelled at - people will get angry at us very quickly. Not the case...

They took us seriously... They asked to have their pictures taken with our signs. They invited us to the day's events. They gave us a large sign they'd made too! Oy... Here are a couple of exchanges we had while there.

Lady: "Who's Dumbledore? Is he that guy from the Reichstag?"
Matt: "Yeah"
Lady: "Oh! Then you'll love this paper I wrote about it!"

She wrote a fucking crazy ass paper on the reichstag, and didn't realize that there were no wizards there... And no CIA even existed then...

Guy: "Who's Dumbledore?"
Me: "He's that guy from the Reichstag"
Guy: "Oh yeah!"
Me: "Here, have this paper about it."
Guy: "I've got one."

hehe
And best of all, some guy that had been ranting nonstop since we got there came up next to me and whispered in my ear:

"Bush is Peter Pettigrew!"

I nearly lost it. Almost as good as the lady with the shirt that said "911 = neo con job"... Yeah... sure.
We have pictures, they are here they're damn funny, so spread 'em around. :)

You seriously ought to consider leading a protest warrior group.

As for these nuts, these are the same people who called Bush an idiot, and also changed their tune late in the 2004 election cycle to try and picture him as an evil genius. I guess they were scared of everyone finding out DURING the election that Kerry did WORSE than Bush at Yale.

yes, a very nice robot indeed!

if i weren't so averse to going outside during daylight, i'd have made a sign along the lines of: bush eats children in a neocon shabbat! hits the jewish angle, too, donchaknow. ;)

I especially like the photo of the guy who dressed up in a detainee outfit and stood on a milk crate with his arms outstretched. The Nikes he's wearing are obviously a powerful statement in and of themselves...

Isn't it possible that at least some of these guys had a sense of humor and wanted to have pictures with your signs because they found them amusing?
(I mean, besides the Reichstag guys.)
The Pettigrew guy would seem to show that at least one of them was in on the joke.

(Just so we're clear, I don't agree with them and I'm not defending them.)

i am a bleeding heart communist and i found those movies to be ... well, a bit disagreeable. they were informative in principle, but some of the stuff ... i dunno. then again, it wouldnt surprise me if it's all true and my conditioning by mother culture is overriding my soul.

Haha! I can't believe they never caught on. Next time Matt should carry a sign that says "I lost my leg in Iraq for oil." If anyone points out that he still seems to have 2 legs, say one is a prosthetic. Then change which it is for the next person. *l*

My flatmate's really excited about this. We might have to stage a protest when Uni term goes back, even though we're all the way over in NZ. She asks persmission to icon some of your quotes. I think "Bush is Peter Pettigrew" it sparking off plot bunnies in my head...
